Laurie Williams’s minor melody and SATB harmony version of When God of Old Came Down from Heaven
Text by John Keble, 1792-1866, from “The Christian Year”, 1827, 7 verses only.
Music is Winchester Minor, Laurie Williams, 1985, reharmonised for this text.
It is a minor version of the melody and commonly used harmony of Winchester Old, the well known tune closely and appropriately associated with While Shepherds Watched Their Flocks by Night and sometimes (much less appropriately) used for this text.
You will find that many people who know the major version well will feel that this minor version is familiar and sing it with little or no difficulty, but will be unlikely to guess its origin.
To preserve its association with this text, this music is not licensed for use with any other text.
A descant version will be available later.
